Good morning, morning people and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. Our first trip down memory lane takes us to this day in 1904, when in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, future jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and big band leader, Jimmy Dorsey was born. To celebrate what would have been his 116th Birthday (he passed away in 1957, age 53, from throat cancer) we find ourselves spinning "Granada" by Tommy Dorsey And His Orchestra Featuring Jimmy Dorsey. The tune was released in 1954 on Bell Records and features the track, "You're My Everything" on it's B-side.

Our second selection comes to us, as we mark this day in 1980, when a pair of glasses, a wristwatch, and a cigarette lighter were found in a filing cabinet drawer in Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office in Mason City, Iowa. The glasses belonged to Buddy Holly and the watch (that was still running) and the cigarette lighter belonged to The Big Bopper, who both perished in a plane crash along with Ritchie Valens and the pilot Roger Peterson, on February 3rd, 1959. It's believed a farmer found the items a couple of months after the crash, and turned them into the coroner's office who misplaced them during a move to a new courthouse. With this in mind we spotlight the song, "Chantilly Lace" by The Big Bopper. "Chantilly Lace" was released in August of 1959 on Mercury Records. It peaked at #6 on the Hot 100, #4 on the Cashbox and was produced by Jerry Kennedy. Our 45 has "Big Bopper's Wedding" as it's B-side. If you've never heard it, you should, it's hilarious.
