Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning vinyl enthusiasts and welcome back to the Sunday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Iowa born Air Force Veteran, big-band trombonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader, Glenn Miller, on what would have been his 116th Birthday. He and the plane he was traveling in disappeared on December 15, 1944, while flying over the English Channel. He was 40 years old. To this day there have been no definitive answers to the many questions that surround his assumed demise. To honor his legacy we spotlight the 1954 RCA Victor compilation album, Glenn Miller Plays Selections From the Film "The Glenn Miller Story". It was originally released on 78 RPM and peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, giving Miller his first Gold certified record. It collects songs from the soundtrack to the film, The Glenn Miller Story, starring James Stewart and June Allyson. I'm not sure exactly what version we have here. I found 40 on Discogs and can match up the Catalog numbers (LSP 1192 (e) ) to German pressings, but, I can't find any version with this particular cover or an exact match to the track listing.
Fans of the ABC television show LOST may remember his song "Moonlight Serenade" from the Season Two episode "The Long Con", in which the characters Hurley and Sayid pick up the song on a radio receiver. Sayid says 'the signal could be coming from anywhere', and Hurley jokes, 'or any time' ...
