Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's Singles. Our first selection comes to us via  Greenwich Village born folk and blues singer, Maria Muldaur, who is celebrating her 77th Birthday today. Happy Birthday Maria ! With her in mind, we spotlight her most successful single, "Midnight At The Oasis". The song, written by David Nichtern, appeared on her debut solo album (Reprise 1974) and was produced by  Lenny Waronker and  Joe Boyd. It peaked at #21 in the UK, #7 Adult Contemporary, #6 Hot 100, #5 Cash Box, #2 Canada , and #1 on Canada's Adult Contemporary charts. The tune tells a tale of a desert love affair, and features "Any Old Time" on it's B-side.

Our second single comes to us via Arkansas based singer, songwriter, musician, and actor, Johnny Cash, on this, the 17th anniversary of his passing. He died in 2003, age 71, of complications from diabetes. To honor his legacy, we shine a light on his 1984 track, "The Chicken In Black". The Billy Sherril produced tune, was released on Columbia records and is a bizarre and humorous story about Johnny getting a brain transplant. He ends up with a bank robber's grey matter and every time he tries to perform thereafter, he finds himself robbing people. He finally decides he wants his original thinker back, only to discover it's been installed in a chicken, who the doctor informs Cash, is making a killing performing his material. It's B-side is "Battle Of Nashville".
