SATURDAY'S SINGLES : QUEEN and EN VOGUE

Good morning gang and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up, we remember  British singer, songwriter, record producer, and lead vocalist, Farrokh Bulsara, known the world over as Freddie Mercury, of Queen.  Today would have been his 74th Birthday. He passed away in 1991, age 45 from complications of AIDS. To honor his legacy we spotlight the single, "We Are The Champions". The song was released October 7, 1977 on Elektra Records and produced by Queen with  Mike "Clay" Stone. The tune, from their sixth album, News Of The World, peaked at #4 on the Hot 100, #3 in Canada and Belgium,  and #2 in the Netherlands and the UK. The song is often played on radio, immediately following it's B-side "We Will Rock You." I remember sitting in a Dunkin' Donuts drive thru years ago with our oldest daughter Katie. She was probably 10. "We Will Rock You" was playing and I told her I bet her $5 I knew what song the DJ would play next. She doubted me and took that bet and when "We Are The Champions" did indeed come on next, she couldn't believe it. Come to think of it, I don't think she ever paid up ...
