STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - THE WHO - ODDS & SODS

Good morning, morning people and welcome back to the Friday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today's featured album is The Who's Odds & Sods, but before we get into the LP's particulars, I've got a story to tell you. It was on this very date, in 1965, that fledgling British rock band The Who decided to stop at London’s Battersea Dogs Home, with the hopes to buy a German Shepherd to guard their equipment, as they had recently purchased a Volkswagen van with somewhat faulty locks. I'm not sure if they got the dog or not, but when they came back to their vehicle, they discovered they had no vehicle of gear. It had been stolen. This necessitated the need to buy more gear, but instread of simply replacing the Vox amps, which they weren't happy with, this time they bought Marshall, and became the loudest rock band in history.

Now on with the record. Odds & Sods was released October 4, 1974 on the Track/MCA label and produced  Glyn Johns, Kit Lambert, Peter Meaden, Chris Parmeinter, Shel Talmy,  and The Who. The album is an outtakes and rarities compilation, (one of the first) that was released as a response to the barrage of bootleg albums that were being released. It collects mostly unreleased tracks from the 1964–1973 era. It peaked at #10 in the UK and #8 in America. Two singles were released ; the original version of "Long Live Rock" (#66 Cash Box, #54 Hot 100, #48 UK) and "Postcard" (#64 Cash Box). The disc has been certified Gold. The album comes with a stage shot full color mini- poster, which we have intact. This copy was purchased a few years ago at the legendary JR's Junk Trunk. When they talk about the good ole days, that was them ...
