SATURDAY'S SINGLES : RICK ASTLEY and GUNS N' ROSES

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up on our cake calendar is 55 year old  English singer, songwriter and radio personality, Rick Astley. Happy Birthday Rick ! 1989 saw the release of Rick's sophomore album, Hold Me in Your Arms, and with it the second single off that album, "Giving Up On Love'". "Giving Up On Love" was released April 15th, 1989 on the RCA label and produced by Rick. It peaked at #36 in France, #45 in Canada, #38 on the Hot 100, and #11 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. We have the max- single on 12" vinyl, with the track list as follows :

Giving Up on Love (12" Pop Extended Mix) - 7:18

Giving Up on Love (7" Pop Mix) - 4:07

Giving Up on Love (12" R&B Extended Mix) - 7:09
Giving Up on Love (Dub 12" Mix) - 5:00
I'll Be Fine - 3:44

These extended singles are interesting to listen to. If you do not know the words to a song, there's a pretty good chance after listening to it 4 times in a row, you will. This record came from the now Legendary J.R.'s Junk Trunk, but before that it came from Peaches, and has a $4.94 price tag on it with a date of 03/89.

Happy Birthday Axl ! The song "Patience" was released in April 1989 on Geffen Records and produced by the band with Mike Clink. Hailing from the group's second album, G N' R Lies, (although back in the day it was considered an EP) the track peaked at #10 in the UK, #7 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and #4 on the Hot 100. It's B-side is "Rocket Queen" from their debut album, Appetite For Destruction. Our 45 is complete with picture sleeve.
