Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up on our calendar of cake is original Animals bassist, Chas Chandler. The English musician, record producer and manager of Slade and Jimi Hendrix was born December 18, 1938 and joined the Alan Price Trio in 1962 and that Trio became The Animals. He was a member until 1966, leaving to pursue other interests and disillusioned by the lack of financial success. He passed away on July 17, 1996, age 57 from an aortic aneurysm. He would have turned 83 today. We own several Animals albums from different time periods, but all our 45s are from the time after Chandler left the band, so we remember him in absentia, with this single :
"When I Was Young" was released April 8, 1967 on the MGM label and produced by Tom Wilson. It peaked at #31 in West Germany, #15 on the Hot 100, #10 in Canada, #9 in the Netherlands, and #2 in Australia. It's B-side is "A Girl Named Sandoz".
Eric Burdon - vocals
Barry Jenkins - drums
John Weider - guitar/violin
Vic Briggs - guitar
Danny McCulloch - bass

Our second single comes to us via Boston based New Wave band , The Cars and their lead guitarist, Elliot Easton, who is celebrating his 68th Birthday today. Happy Birthday Elliot ! He was born in 1953 in Brooklyn. The single, "Drive" was released July 23, 1984 on the Elektra label and produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange (who also divorced Shania Twain) and The Cars. It's B-side is the very Synth-y "Stranger Eyes". "Drive" reached #5 in Canada and New Zealand, #4 in the UK, West Germany, and the Cash Box, #3 in Switzerland and on the Hot 100, and #1 on both the Canadian and American Adult Contemporary charts. It's parent album is the fifth record by The Cars, Heartbeat City.
