Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Ohio born BIG band-leader and songwriter Sammy Kaye, on this, the 34th anniversary of his passing. He died in 1987, age 77, from cancer. For your listening enjoyment, we find ourselves spinning this 1981 Hindsight Records release, The Uncollected Sammy Kaye And His Orchestra Vol 2, 1944-1946, featuring the vocals of Nancy Norman and Billy Williams. Our copy is signed and personalized by Sammy Kaye and drummer Tim Laushey. Both signatures are personalized "To Connie" and the Tim Laushey one reads "I love Winter Haven". I searched and searched and the only information I can find that Sammy visited Winter Haven, FL is in 1963 when he made a TV appearance with the then Citrus Queen, Sue Scarbrough. As for Laushey, I can find no evidence he was ever in Winter Haven. He is not listed on the credits for this record either, although his bio says he played with many Orchestras, including Sammy Kaye's. Laushley is still active and leads his own orchestra now called the Tim Laushey Orchestra. I sent him a message asking about this album, but have yet to hear back. If he does, I will update this post. Sammy turned his Orchestra over to Roger Thorpe a year before he passed away and as far as I know, it is still active. If anyone has any info on these autographs, Connie,  or a Sammy and Tim/Winter Haven connection, I would be ecstatic to learn more.
