Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome to June and to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we celebrate the 61st Birthday of vocalist/guitarist, actor and producer, Jesse Johnson, best known as the original guitarist in the Prince created funk rock band, the Time. Happy Birthday Jesse. After the movie and album Purple Rain, Jesse left the group and went solo. His second album,
Shockadelica, is turning on our table. Shockadelica was released in 1986 on the A&M label and produced by Jesse Johnson. It peaked at #70 on the Billboard 200 and #17 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Four singles were released ; "Crazay" (featuring Sly Stone) (#53 Hot 100, #22 New Zealand, #12 US Club Play, #2 R&B), "She (I Can't Resist)" (#95 UK, #28 R&B, #18 Club Play), "Baby Let's Kiss" (#23 R&B). "Black In America" (did not chart). The songs on the album more or less sound like the Time or Prince, what is known as the Minneapolis sound. Our copy is a promotional copy that we picked up from the now Legendary J.R.'s Junk Trunk.
