Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Bronx born director, producer and screenwriter, Stanley Kubrick, on this, the 24th anniversary of his passing. He was born July 26, 1928  March 7, 1999 to parents Jacob Leonard Kubrick and Sadie Gertrude Kubrick, and passed away in 1999, age 70, from a heart attack. His five decade career saw him direct such films as Spartacus (1960), Lolita (1962), Dr. Strangelove (1964),  A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Shining (1980), and the film with the soundtrack we are featuring today, 2001: A Space Odyssey (!968). The sci fi movie, co written, directed, and produced by Kubrick,  was released in April of 1968. It was co written by author Arthur C. Clarke and was inspired by his short story, "The Sentinel". The film stars Keir Dullea as Dr. David Bowman , Gary Lockwood as Dr. Frank Poole , William Sylvester as Dr. Heywood Floyd, and Douglas Rain as the  voice of the super creepy supercomputer, HAL 9000. The plot  and follows the journey of   astronauts, scientists and  HAL to Jupiter to investigate an alien monolith. 

The Music From The Motion Picture Sound Track was released in 1968 on the MGM label and was  produced by Kubrick. It features many classical and orchestral pieces and it reached #24 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified Gold.
