Today we remember New Orleans born trumpeter and bandleader, Al Hirt, on what would have been his 99th Birthday. He passed away in 1999, age 76, from liver failure. With him in mind, we spotlight his 14th studio album and his most successful one, Honey In The Horn. Honey In The Horn was released in 1963 on the RCA Victor label and produced by Chet Atkins and Steve Sholes. The LP peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 and birthed a single single, "Java" (#4 Hot 100, #1 Easy Listening). On the record, The Anita Kerr Singers provide backup vocals for Al and his band that includes Boots Randolph, Bob Moore, Ray Edenton , Grady Martin, and Floyd Cramer.
