Good morning faithful readers and welcome back to the Friday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we celebrate the 71st Birthday to Owosso, Michigan ( I have two cousins that live there !) born bassist for rock band Grand Funk Railroad, Mel Schacher. Happy Birthday Mel ! To mark the occasion, we shine a light on the band's first live album, conveniently titled Live Album. The double LP was recorded June 23–25, 1970 in Jacksonville and West Palm Beach, and then released November 16, 1970 on the Capitol label. It was produced by Terry Knight and reached #29 in the UK, #17 on the R&B charts, #15 in Australia, and #5 in Canada and on the Billboard. The #5 on the Billboard is quite a feat for any live album, much less a double album and the #17 on the R&B chart is the only time one of their albums crossed over to that chart. Two singles were released ; "Mean Mistreater" (#47 Hot 100, #30 Canada) and "Inside-Looking Out". The latter is a cover of an Animals' song and has also been covered by Pat Travers and stoner metal band, The Obsessed.
