Good morning vinyl enthusiasts and welcome back to the Friday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember drummer Roger Pope, known for his work with Rod Stewart, Hall & Oates, Sir Cliff Richard, Buddy Guy, Kiki Dee, Al Stewart, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, and Paul McCartney. In addition to that, his band Hookfoot was Elton John's backing band on 6 albums. Rumor has it Pope, was part inspiration for Jim Henson's Animal, the drummer puppet on The Muppets Show. Today we will give Hookfoot's self titled third album a listen, on the 7th anniversary of Roger's passing. He died in 2013, at age 66, after a long battle with cancer, but not before marrying his girlfriend, Sue Tressider, on his deathbed.
Before we get started , we give a tip of the hat to our good friend Bill Millard, who mentioned Roger Pope the other day in a Elton John post, ensuring that the name was fresh in our mind. Thanks Bill !
Hookfoot (the LP) was released on DJM Records in 1971. The album was produced by keyboardist/guitarist Caleb Quaye and if it charted I can find no evidence. The song "Don't Let It Bring You Down", a Neil Young cover, was released as a single.
