STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - HUMBLE PIE - ROCK ON

Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Texas born saxophonist Bobby Keys, on the 7th anniversary of his death. He passed away in 2014, age 70, from liver cancer. His six decade career saw him appear on hundreds of albums from bands like the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Harry Nilsson, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, George Harrison, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, and many more. It's his work on Humble Pie's 4th album, Rock On, which is our subject of focus today. Rock On was released in March of 1971 on the A&M label and produced by Glyn Johns & Humble Pie. It peaked at #118 on the Billboard 200 and #87 in Canada. The album's opening track, "Shine On" (did not chart) was the record's sole single. This was the super group's last outing with guitarist Peter Frampton, who left the band later that year. While listening to the LP I heard several songs that had to be an inspiration to The Black Crowes.

"Shine On" - (Frampton) – 3:00

"Sour Grain" - (Frampton, Marriott) – 2:40

"79th and Sunset" - (Marriott) – 3:01
