STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - JETHRO TULL - STAND UP

Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we are thrilled to wish Scottish vocalist, flautist, acoustic guitarist, and bandleader, Ian Anderson (Ian Scott Anderson MBE) a very Happy 75th Birthday. Happy Birthday Ian ! With him in mind, we spotlight Jethro Tull's second record, Stand Up. The LP was released in the UK on July 25, 1969 on the Island label, while the US saw it release on Reprise in September 1969. It peaked at #20 in Canada and on the Billboard 200, #12 in Australia, #5 in Denmark, Germany, and Norway, #2 in the Netherlands, and #1 in the UK. Two singles were released ; the instrumental  "Bourée" (#5 Netherlands) and  "Living in the Past" (#3 UK). The album cover features an illustration of the band (sitting and laying down, but not standing up)  that came about after the band met a woodcarver named James Grashow who followed them for a week in order to capture their art essence. Inside the gate fold their is a pop up stand up of the band. We still have ours, although the pop up is detached from the album, it still displays as you will see in the pictures. This album marked the departure of guitarist  Mick Abrahams who left because of creative differences with Ian Anderson. Martin Barre was his replacement.
