On this day in 1973, a day before the release of the title track to his fifth and final album, South Philadelphia folk and rock singer-songwriter, Jim Croce, perished in a plane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was 30 years old. The album, I Got A Name, was released December 1, 1973 on the ABC label and produced by Terry Cashman and Tommy West. It peaked at #2 in both Canada and America and spawned 3 singles ; the title track (#10 Hot 100, #4 Adult Contemporary), "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" (#68 Country, #9 Hot 100, #1 Adult Contemporary), and "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues" (#32 hot 100, #9 Adult Contemporary) . The LP has been certified Gold in the US. Famed composer Michael Kamen guests on the album.
