Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning Thursday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Tiptonville, Tennessee native, guitarist, singer and songwriter, carl Perkins, on this , the 25th anniversary of his passing. He was born April 9, 1932 to sharecroppers Louise and Buck Perkins. He grew up picking cotton and on Saturday nights would listen to the Grand Ole Opry on his Father's radio. This inspired him to ask his parents for a guitar. They could not afford one, so they made one from a cigar box and a broom. Eventually a neighbor sold him a Gene Autry guitar and the rest is how we say, history. Perkins died January 19, 1998, age 65, from complications from several minor strokes the previous month. Among the attendees of his funeral were George Harrison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wynonna Judd, Sam Phillips, Brian Setzer, Garth Brooks, Nashville agent Jim Dallas Crouch, Dallas rock and roll memorabilia executive Jacques Vroom, Jr., Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.
Speaking of Cash and Lewis, on April 23, 1981 while Johnny was touring Europe, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis joined him on stage at , in Böblingen, near Stuttgart, West Germany and performed an impromptu performance that was released a year later (April 1982) on Columbia Records called The Survivors. It was produced by Rodney Crowell and is called The Survivors. It peaked at #21 on the Top Country Albums chart. Johnny Cash passed away in 2003 and Jerry Lee Lewis died in October of 2022.
