Good morning Friday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. It was on this day in 1936, that  Mississippi born puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor, inventor, composer, filmmaker and screenwriter Jim Henson was born. The creator behind Sesame Street, The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and the Labyrinth passed away in 1990, age 53, from  Streptococcus pneumoniae. He is severely missed. We honor his legacy today, on what would have been his 85 by spinning our copy of  Labyrinth (From The Original Soundtrack Of The Jim Henson Film) by David Bowie (who stars in the movie as The Goblin King) and South African film and television composer, Trevor Jones. 

The film stars the aforementioned Bowie, as well as Jennifer Connelly, as a 16 year old girl named Sarah who is on a quest to find her half brother Toby, an infant she 'wished' away. Apart from Bowie and Connelly, most of the cast are puppets. The film and soundtrack were released in 1986 by Tri Star Pictures, with the Soundtrack on EMI America. It peaked at #68 on the Billboard 200, #39 in the Netherlands, #38 in the UK, #29 in Germany, and #15 in New Zealand. Jones composes six of the musical pieces, Bowie does five and then  they collaborate on the opening track, "Opening Titles Including Underground".
