Good Monday morning gang (that is if you believe in such things) and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Southern rock bassist, Leon Wilkeson, of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame, on this , the 19th anniversary of his death. He passed away in 2001, age 49, from chronic liver and lung disease. With him in mind, we spotlight the first posthumous compilation album, Skynyrd's First and...Last. Skynyrd's First and...Last was released September 5, 1978 on the MCA and produced Jimmy Johnson by Tim Smith. The LP reached #50 in the UK. #35 in Canada, and #15 on the Billboard 200. It has been certified Platinum in the US. "Down South Jukin'" was the only single released and it bubbled under at #103 on the Hot 100. The music was recorded in 1971 and 1972 and was originally intended to be their debut album, but it was shelved and Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd, became their first record instead. I had probably heard maybe one song, before our listen the othert night, so it was like hearing a new old Skynyrd album for me.
