Great Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Chicago born, Air Force Veteran, singer and actor of stage, TV, and film, Ray Middleton, on the 39th anniversary of his death. He was born February 8, 1907 and is known for his roles in Annie Get Your Gun, South Pacific, Man Of La Mancha. He was also the first actor to portray Superman for the public when he appeared as the character on July 3, 1940 at the New York World's Fair at the World of Tomorrow exhibit . He passed away in 1984 from a heart attack, age 77. Today we have him on the aforementioned Man Of La Mancha. It's a 1965 musical with book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion. It is based on the17th-century novel Don Quixote and stars Richard Kiley as Don Quixote, Joan Diener as Aldonza, Irving Jacobson as Sancho Panza, Jon Cypher as Dr. Sansone Corrasco, Mimi Turque as Antonia, Robert Rounseville as The Padre, and Ray Middleton in the role of The Innkeeper. The soundtrack album featuring the cast was originally released in 1966. Ours is a reissue from the 80s on the MCA label. It was directed by Albert Marre and conducted by Neil Warner.
