Today we remember Samuel George Davis Jr., Harlem born singer, dancer, actor, vaudevillian, and comedian, on what would have been his 96th Birthday. He passed away on May 16, 1990, age 64 from throat cancer. He is severely missed. With him in mind, we spotlight the Original Motion Picture score to the 1968 United Artists film, Salt And Pepper. Salt And Pepper is comedy directed by Richard Donner and starring Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Michael Bates, Ilona Rodgers and John Le Mesurier. It revolves around Davis' character Charlie Salt and Peter Lawford's Christopher Pepper, owners of aa nightclub in London who become involved in a plot to overthrow the British government. The Soundtrack, by John Dankworth, was released in 1968 on the UA label and features Davis on two tracks, including the title track and "I Like The Way You Dance. The album cover art is by page favorite, Jack Davis, who would have celebrated his 97th Birthday on December 2. Our copy was purchased within the last couple of years from The Wax & The Needle.
