Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Friday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Mary Christine Brockert, Santa Monica born singer-songwriter, musician, composer, arranger, and producer, better known by her stage name, Teena Marie, on what would have been her 65th Birthday. She passed away in 2010, age 54, after suffering a a grand mal seizure. Her seventh studio album, Emerald City, was released July 22, 1986, on the CBS/Epic labels and was self produced. It peaked at #81 on the Billboard 200 and #20 on the Black Albums chart. "Lips to Find You" (#28 R&B) and "Love Me Down Easy" (#76 R&B) were released as singles. The album was a bit of a departure for her in terms of style, trading her soul/funk hat for one that encompassed blues/jazz/ and rock. Both Steve Ray Vaughn and Bootsy Collins guest on the disc.
