Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today our record of choice is this 1969 Post Records compilation called WAKY (The Big 79) (22 Super Giants). It is a radio station compilation from WAKY in Louisville, Kentucky compiled from listeners surveys. WAKY, called Wacky but it's fans was first broadcast in 1936 and went through many music formats since it's inception, including Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Country, Oldies, Talk, and now Sports. It is the home of Mason Lee Dixon (who passed away last year) and Weird Beard.
Here is the right up on the back of the record concerning this grouping of songs :
Every year WAKY surveys its listeners by way of its 24 hour request lines to determine its Top All Time Favorite Records. It is interesting to note as years pass some songs that were favorites fade in memory and some are replaced by others. It is also interesting to note that certain tunes that achieve hit status in a given year cannot lay claim to a position among the All Time Favorites. Yet year after year certain records gain permanent places in our hearts and minds of WAKY Super Weekend Listeners. Their names reappear in survey after survey. They are requested often. Their appeal ranges from those who remember them in the years they became hits to those who are hearing them for the first time.
Included in this LP are twenty-two such giants. These are the Original hits by the Original Artists. They cover the full spectrum of musical tastes are representative of all of the forms popular music has taken. Without any doubt, they can be categorized as WAKY's "Super Giants."
