Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In the Vinyl again. Today we joyfully celebrate the 72nd Birthday of actor and singer Victor Garber. Happy Birthday Victor ! The Canadian star of stage, television and film also formed a sunshine pop band in the late 60s called The Sugar Shoppe, that released one self titled album. The Mrs was reading a post by Burton Cummings where he talked about the group, describing them as Canada's answer to the Mamas And The Papas. She searched Ebay and found this great copy for our listening enjoyment. The Sugar Shoppe was released in 1968 on Capital Records and produced by Al De Lory. If the album charted, I cannot find any evidence, but a couple of the singles did ; "The Attitude" (#77 Canada), a cover of Donovan's "Skip-a-Long Sam" (#73 Canada), and "Privilege" (#93 Canada). In addition to Garber the group was filled out by lead singer, songwriter and pianist Peter Mann, and female vocalists Laurie Hood, and Lee Harris. The music encompasses folk, country, soul, rock, and showtunes all wrapped up in a pop package and backed by The Wrecking Crew.
(Total disclosure : I really wasn't familiar with Victor Garber until seeing him years ago in the tv show Alias, and then again, when he joined the CW Network Arrowverse.)
