SATURDAY'S SINGLES : U2 and THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. It was on this day in 1943, that English keyboardist, Vincent Crane, best known for his work in the psychedelic rock band, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, was born. He passed away February 14, 1989, at age 45, from an overdose. With him in mind we spotlight their transatlantic hit, "Fire". The song was released June of 1968 in the UK, and September of that same year in the US on the Atlantic label.  The tune was written by Arthur Brown, Vincent Crane, Mike Finesilver and Peter Ker and produced by Kit Lambert, and Pete Townshend. It hailed from the group's self titled debut and peaked at #7 in Australia, #4 in the Netherlands, #3 in Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium, #2 in the US, and #1 in Canada and the UK. It's B-side is "Rest Cure", from the same LP.
