STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - JOHNNY CASH - THE ROUGH CUT KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC

Good morning Sunday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Florence, Alabama native and record producer, Sam Phillips, best known as the founder of Sun Records and Sun Studios, on this, the 20th anniversary of his passing. He was born January 5, 1923 to parents Madge Ella and Charles Tucker Phillips, who were cotton farmers and  is credited with jumpstarting the careers of Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Howlin' Wolf. He passed away in 2003, age 80, from respiratory failure. We honor his legacy by spinning this 1970 Sun Records release, The Rough Cut King Of Country Music by Johnny Cash. The LP sees Cash run through covers from Hank Sr., Ledbetter, Elvis, and Charlie Pride as well as a few originals. The songs "You Tell Me" and
"Story Of A Broken Heart"  were written by Phillips. We bought our copy a few years back at Lakeland's own, The Wax And The Needle.
