Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's singles, a Number Ones edition. Our first selection topped the charts on this day in 1971. "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" by the Raiders (formerly Paul Revere & the Raiders) was released February 1971 on the Columbia label. The song was written by John D. Loudermilk (cousin to charlie & Ira Louvin) and produced by the group's vocalist, Mark Lindsay. The track hailed from their 14th studio album, Indian Reservation and peaked at #14 in New Zealand, #10 on the Canadian Easy Listening charts, #2 on Canada's RPM Singles chart, and #1 on the Cash Box and Hot 100. The song was originally a #20 hit in 1968 for Don Fardon. The Raiders' version features the instrumental "Terry\s Tune" as it's B-side.

Our second Saturday's Singles selection is "Alone Again (Naturally)" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. The song, a non album track, was written by Gilbert and then released May 1972, on the MAM label and produced by Gordon Mills. It reached #21 on the Dutch Top 40, #18 in the Netherlands, #3 in the UK, #2 in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland , and #1 in Brazil, both the Top Singles and Adult Contemporary Charts in Canada, France, Billboard's Adult Contemporary, Cash Box, and Hot 100 charts. It is B/W the tune "Save It".
