Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. Our first selection today comes to us via Atlanta, Georgia born country music singer, guitarist, composer, songwriter, and actor, Jerry Reed. The legendary performer would have celebrated his 84th Birthday today. He passed away on September 1, 2008, age 71, from complications from emphysema. He is severely missed. His song, "Alabama Wild Man" was released July 3, 1972 on the RCA Victor label and produced by Jerry Reed and Chet Akins. The song hailed from Jerry's 14th record, Jerry Reed, and peaked at #79 in Canada, #62 on the Hot 100, #22 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, and #12 on the Canadian Country charts. It's B-side is "Take It Easy (In Your Mind)", from Jerry's other 1972 album, Smell The Flowers. Our 45 comes in it's original picture sleeve and boasts the release of the upcoming album.

Our second "Single" comes to us via country /pop singer, songwriter, musician, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur, Kenny Rogers, who passed away one year ago today, age 81, from from natural causes. To honor his legacy, we spotlight this 1986 Reader's Digest Sound sheet Sampler. It is an advertisement for a Reader's Digest 53 track boxset called, His Greatest Hits And Finest Performances. As one might imagine the sampler plays snippets of songs you know and love, talks about the marvelous duets he performed with female artists, the Gambler movies, etc, while the narrator talks up the many advantages of buying the boxset, similiar to what you might hear on late night Time Life commercials. The sound sheet plays at 33 RPM and was manufactured by Eva-Tone out of Clearwater, Florida.
