Good morning gang and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles, a number ones edition. First up, under our needle is the tune topping the charts on this day in 1971. "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart was released July 1971 on Mercury Records. The song, written by Rod and  Martin Quittenton, and then produced by Stewart, hailed from his 3rd album, Every Picture Tells a Story. It reached #11 in Germany, #5 in Switzerland, #3 on the Dutch Top 40, in the Netherlands, and in  New Zealand, #2 in Ireland, and #1 in Australia, Canada, the UK, the Cash Box, and the Hot 100. It's B-side is "Reason to Believe", from the same LP.

Our second Saturday's Singles selection is "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. The track was released August 1968 on the Apple label, written by Lennon–McCartney and produced by George Martin. It was a non album single. It peaked at #5 in Finland, Japan,  and Indonesia, #4 in Italy, #2 in France, and #1 in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Rhodesia, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the Cash Box, the Record World Top 100, the Hot 100, West Germany, and last but not least Yugoslavia. It is backed with the tune, "Revolution" from the White Album.
