SATURDAY'S SINGLES : STYX and PETER TOSH

Good morning gang and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles. As always, we take a moment to acknowledge the victims of the 911 terror attacks that plagued our nation on this day 20 years ago. Our Hearts, Thoughts, and Prayers are with everyone who suffered and suffers.

Our first Saturday's Single celebrates the birth of Montgomery, Alabama born guitarist, singer, songwriter, and performer Tommy Shaw, best known for his work with Styx, Damn Yankees, and  Shaw Blades, as well as his solo work. Tommy was born in 1953 and is celebrating his 68 Birthday today. Happy Birthday Tommy ! To get his party started, we find ourselves spinning  "The Best of Times" by Styx. "The Best of Times" was released January 1981 on A&M Records and produced by lead vocalist Dennis DeYoung. Hailing from their 10th studio album, Paradise Theatre, it peaked at #52 in Germany, #26 in New Zealand, #23 in Australia, and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's B-side is "Lights" from Cornerstone.

Our second selection comes to us via Jamaican reggae musician Peter Tosh, who was murdered during a home invasion on this day in 1987. He was 42. Originally as a member of the Wailers he helped bring the reggae sound to the mainstream before going solo in 1973. With him in mind we shine a light on his cover of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode". The tune was released in 1983 on the EMI label and produced by Peter Tosh and  Chris Kimsey. It came from his 6th album, Mama Africa and peaked at #84 on the Hot 100. Regular versions of the 45 have it paired with the track, "Peace Treaty" but ours is a Promo and has "Johnny B. Goode" on both sides.
