Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning gang and welcome back to the first Saturday's Singles of July 2022. For me the beginning of July is the real start of Summer. Yeah I know Summer officially started last month but when July comes rolling along, I feel it. With the 4th we start off barbeques and pool parties and later in the month my Birthday (as well as my Mom's), people taking vacations and so forth. So I thought I'd pick a couple of songs that felt like July and summertime. First up we have the 1969 Capitol Records single, "Anywhere U.S.A" by The Buckaroos featuring Don Rich. The Buckaroos were an assemble country music group led by Buck Owens and along with Merle Haggard's The Strangers, helped developed the "Bakersfield sound". They scored 21 number ones during their career, but "Anywhere U.S.A. did not fare that well. It reached #63 on the Hot Country Songs charts. It's flip side was "Gathering Dust". Both songs have that 'truck driving' feel to them.

Our second summer single is "I Love The Summertime" by Ohio based R&B/pop/soul duo Dean & Jean (real names : Welton Young and Brenda Lee Jones) . It was released in 1963 on Rust Records, and if it charted, I can find no evidence. It's B-side, " Tra La La La Suzy" reached #35 on the Hot 100, and resulted in them being a part of Dick Clark's Caravan Of Stars. . Before teaming up, Young was a member of the King Toppers and Jones was a solo recording artist. The King Toppers, later The Corvettes, and then The King Toppers again, broke up when too many members ended up getting drafted. After Dean & Jean decoupled, Brenda continued as Brenda Lee Melson. Since then both have passed away.
