Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Sunday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we celebrate the 60th Birthday of Syracuse, New York born actor and producer, Tom Cruise ( real name : Thomas Cruise Mapother IV). Happy Birthday Tom ! With him in mind, we spotlight Top Gun (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Both film and album were released in May of 1986 by Paramont Pictures and Columbia Records. The album reached #3 in Australia and Sweden, #2 in Austria, Canada, the European Albums chart, and Iceland, and #1 in Finland, Germany, Switzerland, and the Billboard 200. Six singles were released from the ten track album;  "Danger Zone" (#7 Album Rock Tracks, #4 Cash Box, #2 Hot 100), "Take My Breath Away" (#3  Adult Contemporary, #1 UK, Cash Box, Hot 100), "Heaven In Your Eyes" (#24 Canada, #12 Hot 100), "Mighty Wings" (did not chart), "Playing With The Boys" (#60 Hot 100), and "Top Gun Anthem" (#11 Hungary and US Rock Digital Song Sales). The album has been certfied 9X Platinum is the US. The soundtrack was the top selling soundtrack of 1986. I remember buying this album and the soundtrack to Cocktails, for a dollar a piece,  at the Flea Market and the Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando,  on a Sunday following our annual rock festival Earthday Birthday. 

The movie was  directed by Tony Scott, and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. It stars Tom Cruise as LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a US Navy pilot, Kelly McGillis as Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood, an instructor of Top Gun, and Val Kilmer as  LT Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, wingman to Cruise's Maverick. Speaking of Maverick, the film's sequel, Top Gun: Maverick is currently the #2 movie in America, behind Elvis.
