Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. Our first selection comes to us via Los Angeles pop rock band The Bangles. The group blazed onto the trail in 1981, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Susanna Hoffs, sisters Debbi  (drums/vocals)  and Vicki Peterson (lead guitar/ vocals) , and Michael Steele (bass/vocals). Vicki is celebrating her 62nd Birthday today, and with her in mind, we shine a light on their first #1 single, "Walk Like An Egyptian". The song was released in 1986 on the Columbia label and produced by David Kahne. It hailed from their second record, Different Light and in addition to topping the Billboard 100 for 4 weeks, it was also the #1 song of the year for 1987 as well as Australia, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, and Germany. It's B-side is  "Angels Don't Fall In Love", also a cut from Different Light.

On this day in 1986, English synth pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys garnered their first #1 in the UK with "West End Girls".  It also clinched the top spot in Canada, Finland, New Zealand, Norway, and America. It original version (1984) was released on Bobcat Records and produced                by Bobby Orlando. It was then re-released in 1985 on EMI from their debut album, Please. Our version is the 12" single with 

West End Girls" (dance mix) on Side A

and  A Man Could Get Arrested" /  "West End Girls"  (dub version) on it's B-side.
