Buenos días, amigos and welcome back to Friday and the Cinco de Mayo edition. In lieu of an album detailing the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, we opted to celebrate what would have been the 89th Birthday of Grenada, Mississippi native, and tenor and alto saxophonist, Ace Cannon. He was born in 1934 and passed away suddenly at home, December 6, 2018. He was 84. Before starting his solo career in 1961, he toured with Bill Black's Combo who were his labelmates on Hi Records. Today we have his 1969 Hi records release, Ace Of Sax, turning on our table. The LP sees Ace regaling us with excellent covers of "Down By The Riverside", "Dizzy", and " Bad Moon Rising".
