STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - AL JOLSON - AL JOLSON OVERSEAS

Good morning Thursday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Yesterday brought on the sad news that the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll", Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83. Our Hearts, Thoughts, and Prayers are with her Family, Friends, and Fans. Tomorrow (05-26-23) marks what would be Lithuanian-American singer, comedian, actor, and vaudevillian, Al Jolson's (Asa Yoelson) 137th Birthday. He was born in 1886 in the Jewish village of Srednike, near Kaunas in Lithuania. His Father, Moses Rubin Yoelson, was a rabbi and cantor, and his Mother was Naomi. Today we have him on this 1959 Decca Records release, Al Jolson Overseas. The LP sees the entertainer take his show on the road overseas for the troops. He passed away October 23, 1950, age 64, from a heart attack. His last words were, "Oh ... oh, I'm going."
