Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember North Carolina native, broadcast journalist and war correspondent, Edward R. Murrow (Egbert Roscoe Murrow), on what would have been his 115th Birthday. He was born in 1908 to parents Roscoe Conklin Murrow and Ethel F. Murrow, who were Quakers. In 1925 he joined CBS as director of talks and education and stayed with the network for the duration of his career. He became a household name after he started his on the scene reporting of WWII. He passed away April 27, 1965, age 57, from lung cancer, just two days before his 58th Birthday. Today we have him on this 1968 LP from Columbia Masterworks, "I Can Hear It Now…" Volume 1 by Edward R. Murrow & Fred W. Friendly. The disc is "A chronicle of the war and the years of crisis, told in the authentic sound and voices of the men who made this history." It features excerpts and full broadcasts of his WWII broadcasts and current events of the day, including the Roosevelt Inauguration, the Hindenburg Disaster, Joe Lewis v. Max Schemeling, the Japanese surrender, and more.
