Today we wish Alabama native, singer, songwriter and musician, Emmylou Harris, a very Happy 76th Birthday. Happy Birthday Emmylou ! She was born in 1947, to parents Walter Rutland Harris, a Marine Corps officer, and her mother, Eugenia, a wartime military wife. Over the course of her 5 decade career, she has released 26 studio albums, but it is her sixth studio album, Blue Kentucky Girl, that is turning on our table right now. The LP was released April 13, 1979 on the Warner Bros. Nashville label and produced by Brian Ahern. It peaked at #61 in Australia, #43 on the Billboard 200, #21 in the Netherlands, #6 on the Canadian Country charts, and #3 on the Top Country Albums chart. Two singles were released and both of them were covers ; "Save The Last Dance For Me" (#81 Australia, #20 Canadian Country, #4 Hot Country Songs), originally recorded by Loretta Lynn and the title track, "Blue Kentucky Girl" (#7 Canadian Country, #6 Hot Country Songs), a cover of The Drifters. She also covers her former collaborator, Gram Parsons' song, "Hickory Wind". Among the guest on the album are Rodney Crowell, Don Everly, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Ricky Skaggs.
