Good Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we joyfully celebrate the 89th Birthday of New York native, musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, Johnny Rivers. Happy Birthday Johnny ! To get his party started, we shine a light on his first live album. Johnny Rivers At The Whisky à Go Go was recorded January 1964 at the Whisky a Go Go, in Los Angeles, California and then released a month later in February on the Imperial label. The Lou Adler produced disc reached #12 on the Billboard 200, becoming his first Gold album, and gave his first Gold single with a cover Chuck Berry's 1959 hit "Memphis" (#2 Hot 100). In addition to Berry, Johnny also covers Don Gibson, Lloyd Price, Rufus Thomas, and more. Perhaps the finest moment in the show is the closer, a seamless melody of "La Bamba" and "Twist and Shout". We recently got this album and it's follow-up, Here We à Go Go Again!, from our good friend and neighbor, Laura. Thanks Laura !
