It was on this day in 1944 that Southwest Philadelphia singer and actress, Patti LaBelle (real name : Patricia Louise Holt) was born. Today she celebrates her 78th Birthday and we celebrate her by spinning the 4th studio album, Nightbirds, by the all female vocal group Labelle. Nightbirds was released September 13, 1974 on the Epic label and produced by Allen Toussaint. The LP, their most successful, reached #15 in Australia, #8 in the Netherlands, #7 on the Billboard 200, and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It's only single and their best known one, "Lady Marmalade" peaked at #13 in Australia, while claiming #1 on the Dance Club, the R&B, and the Hot 100 charts. Patti, along with members Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash released 6 albums and then disbanded in 1976.
