Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning faithful readers and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Puerto Rican actor and director of stage, film and television, José Ferrer (José Vicente Ferrer de Otero y Cintrón), on this the 31st anniversary of his death. He was born January 8, 1912 to parents Rafael Ferrer, a local attorney and writer, and María Providencia Cintrón. In 1914 his Family moved to New York when José was two. In the 1930s he attended Princeton University and was a member of the Princeton Triangle Club and played piano in his own band, the "José Ferrer and His Pied Pipers". After college he pursued theatre, both acting and directing and is perhaps best known for his role of Cyrano de Bergerac. He was married 5 times, including twice to Rosemary Clooney , making him the Uncle of George Clooney. He passed away January 26, 1992, age 80, from colorectal cancer. Today we honor his legacy by spinning the soundtrack to the musical comedy Broadway show , Oh Captain ! The production based on the 1953 film The Captain's Paradise with music and lyrics by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans and the book by Al Morgan and José Ferrer, stared Tony Randall as Captain Henry St. James, Abbe Lane, Susan Johnson, Jackie McKeever, Edward Platt, Paul Valentine, and Stanley Carlson.
