Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome to the Independence Day 2023 edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we take off work and gather with our friends family to grill hot dogs and hamburgers, lounge by pools and wish one another a "Happy 4th", all in anticipation of fireworks come dark, that terrify everyone's pets. I think a lot of the occasion gets lost in the hoopla and we forget the real reasons and history behind Independence Day, the day when the 56 signatories of the original 13 colonies unanimously declared their intent to shake off the old yokes of abusive government and establish a new government, one that recognizes the Rights of man, as equal and unalienable.
Our Freedom themed selection for the day is Patriotic Songs Of The USA by the University Of Oklahoma Marching Band. Try as I may I cannot find a year that this LP was privately pressed by the Melody House. On it we find longtime Director of Bands at The University of Oklahoma, Gene Thrailkill, who held the position from 1971 until his retirement in 2001. The band leads us though great renditions of the Pledge Of Allegiance, the National Anthem, Stars and Stripes, Battle Hymn Of The Republicm and more.
